Honda to Re-introduce HR-V SUV
Honda Australia has confirmed the return of a baby SUV to its line-up from 2015 – the HR-V.
The Japanese brand’s local arm says the Jazz-based SUV will share the same moniker as its boxy predecessor from the late 1990s and early 2000s. The HR-V will slot in below the larger CR-V in Honda Australia’s line-up. In other markets including Japan, the modern interpretation of the HR-V is known simply as the Vezel.
The new addition is set to leverage more sales for Honda in the booming compact SUV segment, which already includes the Ford EcoSport, Fiat Panda, Nissan Juke, Kia Soul, Holden Trax and Peugeot 2008.
The Honda will be offered with a choice of a 1.5-litre petrol or hybrid drivetrain, and is set to feature Honda’s practical interior treatment, including flexible seating and dozens of storage points.
"The launch of the HR-V will boost the range of vehicles Honda offers in Australia and attract buyers in the small SUV market to the Honda brand," Honda Australia director Stephen Collins said.
"It is fitting that the new small SUV will take the HR-V moniker as Honda enters the country's fastest growing segment with a red-hot competitor. The HR-V is built on the new Jazz platform and will offer sporty, versatile characteristics. It will provide customers with a wider choice in the SUV market, complementing Honda’s medium SUV offering; the popular CR-V."
